Air Conditioner Storage Checklist
Thirty minutes when the cooling season ends means a fresh first start next summer.
Indoor unit
- Remove and wash the filter (spray from the side opposite the dust)
- Dry the filter completely in the shade before refitting
- Run fan mode for 1–2 hours to dry the inside
- Fit a dust cover once the inside is dry
Outdoor unit
- Clear leaves, plastic and objects around it
- Cover the top only (wrapping it fully traps moisture)
Finishing up
- Unplug the unit
- Take the batteries out of the remote
Signs it needs a professional deep clean
- Black spots on the louvers or fan inside the vent
- A sour smell as soon as it starts, even with a clean filter
- Water dripping from the unit
- No deep clean in two or three years
